Miriam P. Rogers, EdD, RN, AOCN, CNS

A b s t r a c t

Cancer care has moved rapidly into outpatient/office settings while most nursing education continues to focus primarily on inpatient settings. Simultaneously, cancer care technology and knowledge has exploded, creating increased demand for continuing education. This study was performed to determine perceived learning needs of office oncology nurses as a critical first step in educational program planning. When asked to rank 58 cancer care topics, the 290 participants ranked topics similarly regardless of age, background, or experience. All were ranked important. The highest ranking needs were clustered in the areas of cancer nursing practice, major cancers, and cancer treatment.
