Simple Questionnaire Studies
R. Van Harrison, PhD

A b s t r a c t

The evaluation methodology used most frequently in conjunction with continuing medical education (CME) activities is the written questionnaire. This article helps CME administrators identify when a questionnaire study is likely to be simple and straightforward, when a study is likely to be complex and require experts, and when there are major problems that are likely to prevent a successful study from being performed. Specific steps are detailed for performing a study using a written questionnaire. As an example, the steps in developing our institution’s course evaluation questionnaire are described. Suggestions are made for identifying local consultants in research methods and for reference texts about questionnaire studies.
