Lifelong, Self-Directed Learning: Why Physicians and Educators Should Be Interested

A b s t r a c t

Lifelong, self-directed, practice-based learning in medicine is reviewed. Case examples which serve to illustrate the process and its importance as a continuous improvement activity are presented. Specific reference is made to this new type of CME in the maintenance of competence.
