MEDICINE

Facilitating Change Through CME in Geriatrics

"Practical Geriatrics", a series of programs on 10 geriatric topics selected by community physicians, has been developed to meet the need for continuing medical education in geriatrics. The model format combines lectures, role modeling through video discussion-trigger tapes, an adaptation of problem-based learning principles, and the commitment-for-change technique. Programs were tested with community practitioners on four occasions in 1991. Participant evaluation was favorable, and effectiveness in inducing change appears promising.
