The Colorado Personalized Education Program for Physicians (CPEPP) is the product of a collaborative effort by seven statewide healthcare organizations. It is unique in its community-based, multi-organizational sponsorship and corporate structure. In January, 1990, CPEPP was incorporated as an independent, nonprofit corporation, organized "to provide a personalized systematic program to assist physicians in addressing educational needs in the areas of scientific, technical, and interpersonal skills, as they relate to medical practice" (CPEPP Articles of Incorporation). With the hiring of an Executive Director in August, 1990, the program began accepting referrals in September, 1990. A contracted Medical Education Director and Administrative Assistant along with the Executive Director are responsible to the volunteer Board of Directors for administration of the organization. The services in CPEPP's program design constitute a process for education that simulates the clinical care model: identification, assessment, treatment, monitoring, evaluation, and follow-up. CPEPP provides services to physicians who are referred by organizations as well as those who self-identify an educational need.
