NURSING

Designing Continuing Education Programming Based Upon Futurist Literature
Sandra Peterson, RN, MSN

A b s t r a c t

The typical retrospective approach to planning continuing professional education fails to close the ever-widening knowledge gap of health professionals. What is needed is a view to the future. The futurist literature is reviewed to determine the new knowledge, role conceptions, related basic disciplines, and personal growth that nurses will need to master in order to avoid professional obsolescence.
