Alice M. Kuramoto, RN, PhD, FAAN
A b s t r a c t
In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of schools of nursing that are closing their continuing nursing education programs. There are a number of factors why a continuing nursing education program may not succeed within the university setting. These factors include change in the organizational structure, lack of financial resources, lack of faculty and administrative support, weak leadership, poor quality continuing education courses, and poor marketing techniques. This article discusses each of these factors in the development of strategies for survival within a university setting.
Keywords: Continuing nursing education, continuing professional education, university-sponsored continuing education.
